ZYTEK DEVELOPS ELECTRIC SMART CAR CONCEPT

The Smart EV will be one of 30 or more vehicles that will be featured in the soon to be published Preview 2002. Preview 2002 will include electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles that are being ramped up for sale in 2002 and beyond. Some other vehicles include: Ford Escape 2002 Hybrid, GM-Opel Fuel Cell Zafira,pace car at the 2000 Summer Olympics, Toyota RAV4 hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Sparrow Electric, Mitsubshi SUW Hybrid, Fiat Multipla Hybrid, Toyotae-com EV, Dodge ESX3 Hybrid and many more.

Back in 1997 the " Swatchmobile" made headlines all over Europe and the U.S..A about a tiny, compact 2 seat hybrid.The "Swatchmobile' was a dream design by Nicolas Hayek, who revived the watch industry with the Swatch wrist watch. Because of the involved manufacturing process he inlisted Mercedes for partnership. Mercedes, now Daimler-Chrysler, obliged and is manufacturing it through one of its subsidaries, MCC smart GmBH.

The 3 cylinder 6 speed gas and diesel models are getting over 65 mpg in Europe. They are a popular commuter and are used in car sharing programs in many cities in Europe. Compact on the outside, big on the inside: not your imagination, just Smart, as their brochure indicates. For smart drivers that means finding a parking space instead of looking for one. . Daimler-Chrysler recently shipped a Smart Car near London, UK, to be electrified by Zytek Electric Vehicles Ltd.. Zytek had converted a Lotus Elise to Electric back in 1997 which provided a foundation for a high performance electric coupe. SAE voted the Electric Lotus Elise one of the top 50 technologies in 1998.

Now Zytek has done it again with a electric mini commuter. Bill Gibson, chairman of the Zytek group stated: " With the Smart, we have a sporty, fun city car that also happens to give zero emissions.
