Television Star Ed Begley, Jr., to
Receive GM's Annual 'Friend Of
The
Environment' Award
WHO: General
Motors - Second-Generation EV1 Electric Vehicle
WHAT: GM is officially launching its new,
extended-range EV1
electric
vehicle at what is expected to be the largest gathering ever
of
electric vehicles and electric vehicle owners. GM will
also
display its next generation of environmentally
responsible
vehicles and showcase new, advanced technologies that
could
well find their way into cars of the 21st century,
including:
-- The most aerodynamic and energy-efficient car in the
world,
the second-generation EV1 has new, advanced batteries
that
enable the car to travel nearly twice as far as the first
EV1.
-- The futuristic Chevrolet Triax hybrid concept
vehicle,
which was recently introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show,
offers
the unique ability for its driver to select one of
three
propulsion options: an all-electric version; a
gas-electric
hybrid version; or an ultra-low emissions
gasoline-powered
version.
-- GM's newest advanced-technology concept vehicle,
the
Precept, will be displayed as a clay model. A result of
GM's
participation in the Partnership for a New Generation
Vehicle
(PNGV), the original concept version Precept -- in wind
tunnel
tests performed in Detroit -- recently surpassed the EV1 as
the
most aerodynamic car in the world.
