San Bernadino's Omnitrans
announced testing 3 new hybrid electric buses developed by
ISE-ThunderVolt in San Diego. The buses are 40-foot New Flyer vehicles with ultra-low emission vehicle
(ULEV) Ford V-10 engines running hybrid powertrains. The first bus features Optima lead acid batteries, while the
second features one of Maxwell Technologies' PC2500 ultracapacitor cells.
The first two buses contain 330-horsepower (hp) Mawdsley drive motors, while the third incorporates a new 500-hp
motor. All three buses feature Siemens control electronics. |
