GOVERNOR CHRISTINE WHITMAN GIVES NEW JERSEY
FUEL CELL CAR AN
OFFICIAL SEND OFF TO THE
99 AMERICAN TOUR DE SOL
Before the recent 99 American Tour de Sol, the premier US electric car
race, (this year it started in Waterbury, CT on May 22 and concluded in Lake
George NY on May 29) , Governor Christine Todd Whitman took a test drive in the
New Jersey Venturer, a fuel cell powered Solectria Force.
The Venturer is a revolutionary fuel cell vehicle, engineered by Mike
Strizki, project engineer with the New Jersey Dept of Transportation. Several
local high schools and colleges were involved in the installation of a 5 kw fuel
cell from H Power. The Venturer is also equipped with advanced ni-cad batteries
and the combination of this advanced technology gives a range of about
400 miles at 45 mph for the 96 Solectria Force.
Details of the Venturer have been published in past issues of Electrifying
Times and will be a feature story in the upcoming issue.
